MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team was 2-1 at the Alabama State Invitational over the weekend, improving to 6-1 with wins over in-state rivals Alabama A&M and Alabama State.

"The guys played really well this weekend," head coach
Andres Amores said. "We got a couple of nice wins over some good competition. We finished second in the tournament behind a very talented Presbyterian team, so I was very happy with our play."

The Gamecocks swept the Bulldogs 4-0 to begin the weekend with a victory. JSU took five of the match's nine possible matchups, while the remaining four were left unfinished. The Gamecocks won four sets in 6-0 shutouts, including an impressive combined 12-0 score for sophomore

Jacksonville State wrapped up the tournament with a win over the hosting Hornets on Sunday. In their second sweep of the weekend and fourth of the season, the Gamecocks allowed Alabama State just one set, but it was in a fruitless doubles spot.

The Gamecocks go back to work Thursday, Feb. 16 in Mobile, Ala. They take on South Alabama at 10 a.m., then head to Kennesaw State for a 1 p.m. contest on Feb. 23. Their next home match is Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. against Troy.
