MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Jacksonville State women's tennis team earned its third win of the season this weekend at the Alabama State Invitational, picking up a 4-1 win over Alabama A&M on Friday. Despite the good start to the weekend, the Gamecocks dropped a 4-1 match to Presbyterian on Saturday and a 4-3 decision on Sunday to hosting Alabama State to bring their overall record to an even 3-3.
"The team played hard all weekend," head coach Andres Amores said. "We earned a nice win over Alabama A&M on Friday, played a tough match Saturday against Presbyterian, and came very close to getting a second win Sunday over Alabama State. I was encouraged by our play and believe we are making great strides in becoming a stronger team."
The freshman duo of Alba Conejero and Diana Monsalve combined to go 6-0 over the three-match stretch with both winning each of their singles sets, while junior Genevie Ulanday and freshman Malin Buechner were each 2-1 in singles play.
