JACKSONVILLE -- The Jacksonville State men's basketball team will honor seniors Greg Tucker and Erik Durham Saturday prior to its 7 p.m. matchup against Tennessee Tech. It is the final home game of the season for the Gamecocks at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
The Gamecocks (16-12, 8-5 OVC) and Golden Eagles (11-17, 7-6 OVC) are both fighting for a prime position in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. Prior to the game Saturday, JSU is in position to be the No. 5 seed in the tournament. Meanwhile, TTU sits fourth in the OVC East.
Jacksonville State is 8-5 in OVC play, picking up eight wins in 13 conference games for the first time since the 2012-13 season. The Gamecocks went on to finish 17-11 under then-head coach James Green. The last time JSU began a conference slate with a better record than 8-5 was 1999-00 under Mark Turgeon. His team was 9-4 through 13 contests.
Tennessee Tech has dropped three of its last five games, but it pulled off an impressive 83-70 upset of first-place Belmont on Feb. 11. The Golden Eagles are the only OVC team to defeat the Bruins this year. Kajon Mack posted his first career double-double behind career-highs of 24 points and 12 rebounds. He also added six assists. Curtis Phillips Jr. notched a season-high 19 points off the bench with three triples.
