Gamecocks Visit SIUE for Saturday Afternoon Matchup

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- The Jacksonville State men's basketball team is in Edwardsville, Ill., for a 4 p.m. Saturday matchup with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
It is just the seventh meeting between the two programs, and JSU holds a 4-2 advantage in the all-time series. The two teams first met in 2011 when SIUE joined the Ohio Valley Conference. The Gamecocks has won the last four of five meetings, but look to improve upon a 1-2 record when playing at the Vadalabene Center.
Jacksonville State (14-11, 6-4 OVC) currently sits in third place in the OVC East behind Belmont (11-0) and Morehead State (6-3) in the division standings. The Gamecocks go into the Saturday game with an 8-8 road record and 10 wins away from Pete Mathews Coliseum. Their eight wins on the road are tied for the third-most in the nation, and the last time JSU won more than eight on the road was nine in 1991-92.
SIUE (5-19, 0-10) is struggling this season without an OVC victory. Since an 85-67 win over Missouri S&T on Dec. 28, the Cougars are on a 10-game losing skid. SIUE dropped a 92-69 decision to Ohio Valley Conference-leading Belmont Monday night in Nashville, Tennessee. Belmont shot 61.5 percent (32-52) from the field and connected on seven three-pointers. Three SIUE players scored in double figures, led by Burak Eslik's 18 points. He was 4-12 from the field, including 2-4 from beyond the arc and 8-8 at the free throw line. Christian Ellis tied his career high in scoring with 16 points. He added four assists, three steals and no turnovers. Jalen Henry scored 16 points and added seven rebounds.
