VICKSBURG, Miss. – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team downed Alcorn State and Jackson State on Sunday to improve to 3-0 on the season. The Gamecocks shut down Alcorn 5-0 and topped Jackson 4-1.

Joaquin Vallejo and
Guillermo Agost each claimed wins in straight sets over Alcorn State.
Pablo Caffarena's match with Jonathan Parat was on its way to a third set before the competition was cut short.
Paolo Cucalon's match went unfinished, as well. The teams of Kaplja/
Andres Gomez and Agost/
Jordi Blanchar claimed the doubles point 5-4 and 6-2, respectively.

Jackson State was able to claim one point from the Gamecocks, but Jacksonville State took the doubles point and three of the available four singles points. Kaplja, Caffarena and Vallejo won at slots No. 1-3, while the Tigers' Styliano Gkontsaris won at No. 4. Jackson State took one doubles set, but
Joaquin Vallejo/Caffarena and Marc Roura/
Alexander Vishnevskiy secured the doubles point to claim the three-point victory.

Agost improved to 2-0 for the season while Vallejo is now 3-0 in singles action. Kaplja, in the No. 1 position, is undefeated at 3-0. The Gamecocks are perfect at 7-0 in doubles competition.

The Gamecocks remain the road for their next matches, competing in the Alabama State Invitational Feb. 17 and 18 in Montgomery, Ala. JSU returns home Feb. 20 for a noon match against Kennesaw State.
