JACKSONVILLE – Four members of the 2018 Jacksonville State football team received All-America honors when they were named to the HERO Sports FCS All-America on Wednesday.
Â
Junior wide receiver Josh Pearson, senior defensive lineman Randy Robinson and junior long snapper Josh Brady were named to the HERO Sports Second Team All-America squad, while senior lineman BJ Autry was a Third-Team pick.
Â
Pearson led all Division I players with 17 touchdown receptions during the regular season. The Decatur, Ala., native caught six more touchdown passes in a season than any other player in school history, while his 67 catches and 1,123 yards were each second-most in a season in JSU history.Â
Â
The All-America honor comes following the junior's naming as an All-Ohio Valley Conference performer and after he was named one of 25 finalists for the Walter Payton Award, given annually to the Offensive Player of the Year in FCS.
Â
Robinson grabs his first All-America honor of 2018 and his first since earning Sophomore All-America honors in 2016. He was a First Team All-OVC pick for the third time and a candidate for the OVC Defensive Player of the Year honor after leading a stout JSU defense in 2018.
Â
The native of Riverdale, Ga., not only made a difference on the defensive front for JSU, he also was a star on special teams. He recorded 38 tackles in the middle of the line, 8.0 for a loss and 3.0 sacks, while leading the team with 10 quarterback hurries. On special teams, he blocked a school-record five kicks in 2018, giving him a school-record eight in his JSU career.
Â
Brady grabs his first career All-America honor after appearing on the HERO Sports Preseason All-America team prior to the 2018 season. The Chattanooga, Tenn., native was a key part in the Gamecock special teams, snapping every punt, PAT and field goal try in a season that saw the Gamecocks score 520 points, the third-most in a season in school history.
Â
Autry's naming to the HERO Sports Third Team brings him his fourth-career All-America nod, paring with First Team mentions from AP, STATS and from Walter Camp. Autry, a senior from Eight Mile, Ala., is a two-time All-OVC performer, named to the first team following the regular season.Â
Â
The offensive lineman paved the way for a JSU offense that rushed for more than 2,600 yards during the season. Three Gamecock running backs each rushed for more than 400 yards, including Jaelen Green who netted a team-high 723 yards on the ground. He also provided a pocket for All-OVC quarterback Zerrick Cooper who threw for nearly 3,500 yards with 32 touchdown passes and six rushing touchdowns.
