PATTERSON, La. – The Jacksonville State men's golf team finished second at the Atchafalaya Intercollegiate on Tuesday, shooting a second-best 296 among the 10-team field in the third round.

Freshman Jesus Dario Montenegro, of Buenos Aires, Argentina, finished tied for third at 5-over par after posting a 75 in the final round at the Atchafalaya at Idlewild Course.
Benedikt Thalmayr placed sixth at six-over and
Quim Vidal Mora finished in the top-10 at 8-over in a tie for 10th place.

Juan Pablo Francavillo and
Maximo Portais each placed in the top-25 at 18th and 22nd, respectively. Francavillo ended the tournament 11-over and Portais was 13-over.

The Gamecocks dropped to second with a 300 in the second round and remained in the No. 2 slot with a one-shot lead over Nicholls State's 297 third-round total. JSU finished the invitational eight shots better than the Colonels.

Jacksonville State returns to action March 11 at the Cape Fear Intercollegiate, hosted by Appalachian State. The two-day tournament takes place in Wilmington, N.C.
