JACKSONVILLE—The Jax State men's golf team will play in UAB's G-Mac Invitational for their second tournament of the season starting Monday.
At the Argent Financial Classic at Squire Creek, Jax State was seventh of 17 teams with the squad posting eight-under as a group during Monday's second round with the five players posting 20 total birdies.
Ryley Heath took 15
th in the field with a five-under total of 211. Freshman
Will Drake had a solid start to his collegiate career, posting three at or under par rounds during the tournament, highlighted by a three-under 69 in his first round.
The Gamecocks were fourth at the G-Mac Invitational last year, posting the best 18-hole team score in the field during the final round with a 15-under 273. Heath posted 66 in the final round to finish sixth on the individual leaderboard.
Limestone Springs was designed by U.S. Open winner Jerry Pate and has dramatic changes in elevation, an abundance of natural creeks and streams, hillside outcroppings of limestone, and scenic ridges and valleys. It plays nearly 7,000 yards from the championship tees.
Thirteen teams along with three individuals from the University of Alabama make up the field with Florida Atlantic, Southeastern Louisiana, Winthrop, South Carolina Upstate, Queens University of Charlotte, West Georgia, North Alabama, UAB, Alabama State, Samford, Lipscomb, and Central Arkansas joining the Gamecocks in the 54-hole event over two days.
