JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team earned a 4-3 win over Lipscomb on Saturday at the JSU Tennis Courts. The Gamecocks, ranked No. 100 by the ITA, improved to 8-1 on the season with the victory.
 
The match began in the Bisons' favor with Lipscomb taking the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. It marked just the first time this season Jacksonville State did not claim the first point of the day.  Andres Gomez and Guillermo Agost team to take the No. 3 set, but losses and No. 1 and No. 2 gave LU the early advantage.
 
The Gamecocks went on to take four of the six singles matchups to take the contest by one point. Lipscomb won at No. 1 and No. 6, but the middle four belong to Jacksonville State. Pablo Caffarena, Joaquin Vallejo and Agost each took their matches in consecutive sets, not allowing more than four points in any of the six sets played.
 
Sergio Lizarraga's match at No. 5 against Francesco Tacconi proved to be the match-winner and went to an exciting three sets before the decision went in the JSU sophomore's favor. Lizarraga took the first set 6-4, and Tacconi battled back to claim the second stanza 6-4. Lizarraga dominated in the third set, winning 6-1, to bring the match to a close.
 
The Gamecocks return to the court Feb. 28 to take on Mercer University in Macon, Ga., at 2:30 p.m.
