MBB Game Notes: Jacksonville State | Tennessee Tech
JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's basketball team hosts Tennessee Tech on Thursday at 8 p.m. at Pete Mathews Coliseum on ESPNU.
Thursday's game is SGA Greek & Student Organization Night at The Pete. The first 100 students through the doors will receive a free sweatshirt, and the Greek/student organization with the most spirit will receive a $100 gift card. In addition, the Marching Southerners are set to perform with Hard Corps during the nationally-televised Ohio Valley Conference matchup.
Jacksonville State (17-8, 8-4 OVC) looks to avenge a 79-78, overtime loss suffered to the Golden Eagles (16-9, 8-4 OVC) in last season's home finale. Both teams enter the matchup with an 8-4 OVC record, tied for fourth in the league standings.
With a start Thursday night, senior Malcolm Drumwright will tie Brian Williams (2010-14) for most all-time Division I starts as a Gamecock with 94. The iron man has started 60 consecutive games for Jacksonville State, dating back to last season's opener at Tulsa.
Junior Jason Burnell looks to continue his dominance in league play against the Golden Eagles. The DeLand, Fla., native posted his first career double-double Saturday at SIU Edwardsville with 12 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. He is on a tear in the OVC, averaging 13.3 points per game and shooting .584 against conference opponents.
Tennessee Tech comes into the game following a split of its OVC matchups last week, picking up a 68-67 win at SIU Edwardsville on Thursday and dropping an eight-point game to Eastern Illinois on Saturday. The Golden Eagles are led by Curtis Phillips Jr., who is averaging 13.8 points per game with five rebounds per game at the No. 3.
