MACON, Ga. – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team edged out No. 81 Mercer 4-3 on Wednesday to earn its fifth win in a row.

The Gamecocks (9-1, 0-0 OVC), ranked 98th by the ITA, took four of the six singles matchups to overcome a 1-0 deficit after dropping the doubles point.
Guillermo Agost and
Andres Gomez won their doubles set at No. 3, but it was the only set JSU picked up among the first three of the day.

Mercer's Sam Philip and Olivier Stuart won at No. 1 and No. 2, while
Joaquin Vallejo, Agost and Gomez won at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 to force a tie with one match remaining.

The final point of the day came down to the No. 5 match between
Sergio Lizarraga and Mercer's Stathis Tsiranidis. With the match tied 3-3, Lizarraga earned victory in the first set 6-4, but Tsiranidis battled back to tie the match with a 7-5 win in the second set. Lizarrago claimed the exciting deciding set 6-4 to push the Gamecocks to victory.

The Gamecocks return to the court Saturday, March 3 at 3 p.m. to take on Nicholls State at neutral-site Troy University. JSU returns home March 7 to take on Kennesaw State at noon.
