FINAL RESULTS
GASTONIA, N.C. – The Jacksonville State men's golf team wrapped up its pre-conference schedule on Tuesday with an 11th-place finish in a tough field at the Gary Koch Invitational.
The 13-team event held at the Gaston Country Club was co-hosted by Auburn and Kentucky and featured five nationally ranked teams. There were eight nationally ranked players in the 75-man field.
JSU finished with a final-round 296 on the par-72, 7,042-yard layout, capping a 54-hole score of 890. No. 28 Kentucky won the event with a 35-under 829, four shots better than co-host and 11th-ranked Auburn. No. 34 Ole Miss finished third but was 20 shots behind the Tigers.
Auburn's Trace Crowe won the event with a 16-under 200, thanks to a final-round 68 that helped him edge Kentucky's Chip McDaniel by a shot.
JSU was led by freshman
Quim Vidal Mora, who shot a 1-under 71 in Tuesday's final round. The native of Barcelona, Spain, highlighted his final round with an eagle on the par-5 first hole and he also recorded three birdies in the round. He finished tied for 26thin the tournament with a 1-over 217.
Sophomore
Max Basler tied for 42ndafter his final round 74 capped a 222. Junior
Benedikt Thalmayr's Tuesday 76 finished off a 230 and tied for 62nd, while freshman Jesus Montenegro's 75 tied him for 67thwith a 232. Senior
Daniel Pico also shot 232 and tied for 67thafter a final-round 84.
The Gamecocks turn their focus to the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament from April 23-25 at The Shoals on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Muscle Shoals, Ala. The 54-hole tournament will be played on the Fighting Joe Course and will award its winner with the OVC's automatic bid into the NCAA Championships.
