Men's tennis improves to 7-0 with win over North Alabama

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team continued its hot start to the season Wednesday, improving to 7-0 with a 6-1 win over North Alabama at the JSU Tennis Courts.

"This was a tough match," head coach Andres Amores said. "I am happy we were able to pick up our seventh win, but we have another tough match in East Carolina coming up this weekend that is going to be a big challenge."

The Gamecocks took the doubles point 2-1. Joaquin Vallejo and Alexander Vishnevskiy shut out Tim Heslin and George Marks 6-0 at No. 3, and Aljaz Kaplja and Sergio Lizarraga secured the point with a 6-1 win at No. 1.

JSU went on to win five of the six singles matches, falling in just the final contest of the day. Kaplja, Vallejo, Guillermo Agost, Lizarraga and Jordi Blanchar each tallied two-set wins.

UNA's Andreas Hansen claimed the Lions' lone point with a two-set win over Vishnevskiy at No. 4 in the final match of the afternoon.
Jacksonville State travels to Greenville, S.C., Saturday, March 2 to take on East Carolina at noon.
