Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men's tennis falls 6-1 at Chattanooga Sunday afternoon

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team was unable to snap a two-match skid Sunday, falling 6-1 to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga at the UTC Tennis Courts.

The Gamecocks' (7-3) lone point came on a two-set win with Sergio Lizarraga topping the Mocs' Pablo Llebeili at No. 5 singles. Lizarraga won the first set 6-1 and took the second 7-6 following a 7-4 playoff to decide the point.

The win was Lizarraga's fifth of the season as he improved to 5-2 overall and at the No. 5 position. He is currently tied for third among Gamecocks for the most singles wins this season.

Chattanooga (9-6) scored the doubles win to go up 1-0, and Niklas Gerdes' win at No. 1 singles over Aljaz Kaplja made it an early 2-0 advantage for the home team. Lizarraga's win made it a one-point game, 2-1, but UTC went on to win the next four singles contests in a row.

Jacksonville State looks to put an end to a three-match losing streak next Tuesday, March 19, but will have to do it on the road against Kennesaw State. The matchup between the Gamecocks and Owls is set for 3 p.m. in Kennesaw, Ga. JSU then begins Ohio Valley Conference play Friday, March 22 at Eastern Illinois.
