JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team dropped its first Ohio Valley Conference matchup of the season Saturday in a 7-0 loss to Tennessee Tech at the JSU Tennis Courts.
The Gamecock (10-6, 3-1 OVC) loss to the Golden Eagles (6-13, 3-1 OVC) into a tie for first place in the OVC standings with TTU and Belmont.
Guillermo Agost and Jordi Blanchar scored a 6-3 doubles win over Riku Kubota and Wencesiao at No. 2, but JSU losses at No. 1 and No. 3 put the Eagles up 1-0 early.
Tennessee Tech went on to take all six singles matchups – winning five in two sets. Blanchar was the only Gamecock to force a three-set contest, but the JSU sophomore fell 6-0 in the final set after battling for a 6-1 win in the second over Lucca Silva.
One match remains on the schedule for Jacksonville State before the start of the OVC Championships. JSU will take on Tennessee State in Nashville, Tenn., Saturday, April 20.
Tennessee Tech takes on Tennessee State the night before, and Belmont still has Austin Peay to face. If all three first-place teams win, Jacksonville State would force a three-way tie for the conference's regular season crown. It would be the first regular-season title for the men's tennis team since 2014.
