Men's tennis secures OVC regular season title share Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team earned a share of the Ohio Valley Conference regular season crown Saturday with a 7-0 win over Tennessee State at Hadley Park.
The Gamecocks (11-6, 4-1 OVC) are regular season champions for the first time since 2014, and will be the No. 3 seed in the OVC Men's Tennis Championships when it begins April 26 in Nashville.
"This was a great way to finish out our season," head coach Andres Amores said. "I thought our team played well and competed all season, and now we have a few days to prepare for the tournament."
After winning the doubles point with back-to-back 6-2 sets, JSU swept singles play. Guillermo Agoat and Jordi Blanchar each improved to 11-4 in singles competition with wins at No. 3 and No. 6, respectively, while Aljaz Kaplja earned his seventh win of the season at the No. 1 slot.
Joaquin Vallejo won 6-3 in both sets over Leandros Misdrachis at No. 2, Alexander Vishnevskiy won 6-3, 6-2 in two sets over Larry Sloan at No. 4 and Sergio Lizarraga earned his ninth win with a two-set victory at No. 5.
The Gamecocks will learn their first-round opponent for the OVC tournament follow the conclusion of Monday's remaining conference matches.
