JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville State men's golf team will make its ninth appearance in the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship in the Louisville Regional at the University of Louisville Golf Club.
A week after winning their third-straight Ohio Valley Conference Championship and their sixth in the last nine seasons, the Gamecocks learned they would compete in Louisville, Ky., during Wednesday's selection show on The Golf Channel.
JSU will be one of 13 teams competing at the par-72, 7,217-yard University of Louisville Golf Club from May 13-15. The low five teams at the end of the 54-hole regional will advance to the NCAA Championship at the Blessings Golf Course in Fayetteville, Ark., on May 24-29.
Oklahoma State is the top seed in the regional, ahead of Auburn, North Florida, Louisville and Baylor, respectively. Arkansas State, Iowa State, West Virginia, Arizona, Mississippi State and New Mexico are seeded ahead of JSU, while Southern Illinois rounds out the field.
The Gamecocks earned the OVC's automatic bid into the NCAA Championships by winning the conference tournament on April 23 on The Fighting Joe Course at The Shoals on The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. JSU broke the OVC Tournament record for a 54 hole score by 21 shots with a 836 (-28) to claim its eighth title and the sixth since 2011.
JSU's sophomore trio of Jesus Dario Montenegro, Quim Vidal Mora and Maximo Portais led the way over the three-day OVC Championship and all earned All-Tournament honors. Montenegro claimed his first career win by winning medalist honors with a 12-under 204 that was three shots ahead of Vidal Mora in second place.
