JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State's volleyball team dives into Ohio Valley Conference play with four-straight home matches beginning on Wednesday.
Â
The Gamecocks (6-6) will host the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (4-9) in the conference opener at 6 p.m. on Wednesday night at Pete Mathews Coliseum. Admission is free to all JSU home volleyball matches. Free pizza will also be on hand for students in attendance at tomorrow night's contest.
Â
Live stats and ESPN+ video will be available at JSUGamecockSports.com for those unable to attend. Fans can also follow the Gamecocks on twitter and Instagram by searching JSUGamecocksVB.
Â
JSU is entering league play on a high note following consecutive straight-set victories last weekend over New Orleans and College of Charleston. Second-year head coach Todd Garvey will begin the 2019 OVC slate with back-to-back matches against schools JSU went 3-0 against in 2018 with Tech and UT Martin on Saturday.
Â
Jax State's offense is powered by sophomore Lena Kindermann's league-best .338 hitting percentage and team-high 153 kills. Senior Kaylee Frear and juniors Kaylie Milton and Sadie Anderson make four Gamecocks total with triple-digit kills for the season. Frear has also been controlling the net on the defensive side with a team-best 40 blocks. Behind the front line, freshman Erin Carmichael has assumed the role as libero throughout the early portion of the season and owns a team-high 156 digs ahead of Dani Steele and Lexie Libs. Libs has directed JSU's efficient offense with the second-best assist-per-set average in the OVC through the non-conference season and ranks 28th nationally with 467 assists.
Â
Tech opened the year with a difficult preseason schedule including matches against top-25 opponents Michigan and Louisville. The Golden Eagles have since found a rhythm and enter Wednesday night having won four of their previous six outings. Â
Â
The Gamecocks swept TTU in both matches last season, and hold an all-time series advantage at 24-10. JSU hasn't lost to the Golden Eagles at home since Nov. 10, 2015.
