JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State women's tennis team was edged 4-3 by West Alabama in its season opener Saturday at the JSU Tennis Courts.

Despite winning the first three singles matches, the Gamecocks (0-1) fell in the final three singles contests and dropped the doubles point to the Lions (1-0).

Cristina Moll-Alles won at No. 1 with a 6-4, 6-3 decision over Haina Franco to tie the match 1-1 following the doubles matches.

Malin Buechner took the No. 2 match with two scores of 6-4 over Daryna Hukasian, and Harriet Hamilton topped Thea Yang 6-3, 6-2, but the Gamecocks' luck ran out after that. Two of the final three matches went to three sets.
