JACKSON, Miss. – The Jacksonville State women's tennis team edged out Jackson State 4-3 on the road, picking up its second win of the young season.

The Gamecocks (2-1) won the doubles point and split singles with the Tigers (2-2) to pick up the victory.

Despite dropping a set at No. 2 doubles, Harriet Hamilton and Cristina Moll-Alles evened up the scoring with a 6-4 win at No. 1. Seniors Alba Conejero and Malini Buechner secured the point with a 7-5 win at No. 3 over Robin Alston and Noelle Frenzel.

Moll-Alles kept rolling at No. 1 singles with a straight-sets win over Maria Matrinez. The sophomore swept the sets 6-2, 6-1 to put the Gamecocks up by two points.

Buechner used three sets in a nail-biter at No. 2, but the senior outlasted Jackson State's Nina Zhang 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 to push the JSU lead to three. Hamilton, the reigning OVC Freshman of the Year, cemented the win at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Sofia Beggiatto.

Jacksonville State dropped the final three rounds of the match, but the Jackson State comeback was too late as the Gamecocks rolled on to their second win of the year.

The Gamecocks return to the court Thursday, Feb. 6 to take on Nicholls State in Thibodaux, La.
JSU returns home Feb. 27 to host Alabama State.
