RICHMOND, Va. – Jacksonville State's men's basketball team travels to Virginia Commonwealth on Wednesday to face the regular NCAA Tournament participant Rams.
VCU (4-4) plays host to the Gamecocks (3-4) for the second time after the two squads met for the initial series meeting during the 2019-20 season. The Rams are most recently coming off a win over Campbell on Saturday, after finishing the month of November against Syracuse, Baylor and UConn.
JSU fell to South Alabama, 74-64, last Saturday, and prepare to face their third opponent who qualified for last season's NCAA Tournament after Wichita State and Drexel matchups earlier in the schedule. Senior Darian Adams' team-high 15.1 points per game leads both Jalen Gibbs and Demaree King who also average double figures. The Montgomery, Ala., native, has posted 23 consecutive games of 10-or-more points going back to last February.
One of Jax State's strengths this season has been the deep ball, where the Gamecocks rank top five in the nation in three-point percentage at 42.4. In a bid to knock-off the perennial Atlantic-10 power, the long range shots could become a difference maker with VCU averaging just under 30-percent from beyond the arc and just 57.4 points per game compared to JSU's 70.1.
Wednesday night's action streams on ESPN+ with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 ET/6:00 CT. Mike Parris will have the play-by-play call across the Gamecock Sports Network and live stats are available at JSU GamecockSports.com.
