JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to Southern Miss on Saturday at the JSU Tennis Courts.

The Gamecocks (5-6) managed a singles win and a set victory in doubles play, while the Golden Eagles (5-2) improved to 2-1 in road matches.

After going down 1-0 in doubles,
Malin Buechner and
Carolina Bulatovic evened the score with a 6-3 victory over Monique Burton and Stephanie Booth at No. 1. Southern Miss ended up taking the doubles point a set later, winning 6-3 at No. 2.

Dariana Prato claimed the first singles point for Jacksonville State, winning 6-0 and 6-3 over Burton at No. 3, but it would be the only point the Gamecocks won Saturday. The Golden Eagles took wins at No. 4, 6 and 1 while the No. 2 and 5 contests went unfinished.

Jax State begins Ohio Valley Conference play next weekend, hosting Eastern Illinois on Friday, March 19. SIUE then comes to town Saturday, March 20.
