JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State baseball team will wrap up an eight-game road trip with a midweek contest with future ASUN foe Kennesaw State.
Wednesday's first pitch is set for 4 p.m. CST. The game will be available on YouTube Live and aired on the Gamecock Sports Network.
The Owls and Gamecocks will be conference foes beginning with the 2022 season. The two clubs have met 25 previous times with JSU holding a 14-11 advantage. JSU and KSU have played at least one game between the two programs in 13-of-the-last 15 seasons. Last season Jax State claimed a 14-10, 15-inning marathon in what would be the final game of the 2020 season.
JSU (8-10) will be looking to shake off a tough opening weekend of Ohio Valley Conference action after dropping a series to Murray State. KSU also dropped two games on the road at Lipscomb.
Redshirt sophomore Nash Adams leads all Gamecocks at the plate with a .373 average. In 16 games-played, the outfielder has 19 hits, including a team-high five doubles on the season. Adams has recorded eight RBI and scored 11 runs. Senior Alex Webb remains a constant contributor with a .342 average with a team-best 25 hits. During the first seven games of the road trip, Webb is hitting .452 (14-31) with two doubles and three home runs.
The Gamecocks rank among the OVC leaders in all three categories – hitting, pitching and fielding. Heading into Wednesday's action, JSU ranks third in overall batting average with a team mark of ,271. Jax State slipped to third in overall pitching with a 4.04 earned run average. Defensively, the Gamecocks are listed second in the conference with a fielding percentage of .977.
Following the KSU contest, JSU returns home for its OVC home opener against Tennessee Tech. The three-game series on Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium will start on Friday, March 26 with a single game at 6 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. Tickets are available online at JSUGamecockSports.com. All JSU students and fans 18 years old and younger are admitted free.
