October 11, 2022 - North Alabama Week
Head Coach Rich Rodriguez
Opening Comments:
"I think the off week and the days that the players had off were good. It was like a 10-11 week stretch where we really didn't have off outside of the one day a week, so I think the guys looked refreshed on Sunday and we need to have a great week of practice. Our guys understand looking at the film of North Alabama -first off, it is a big game for both of us. And they could have easily won against a very good Kennesaw State team if you saw that game. I watched it live and they have some really good players. It is going to be a different environment playing in a minor league stadium, and it is going to be a neat environment and it is something we have to adjust to with going in one direction and other stuff. We have to be focused and know that we will get their best shot, and we have to play well. I am excited for our guys with the preparation this week, and it is going to be a great crowd and environment up there."
On how practice was last week:
"On Tuesday and Wednesday, we went full pads and we had two intense practices. We scrimmaged with the young guys after Tuesday's practice for about 15 minutes. That was really good because we wanted to see those guys in a live situation and evaluate them. Wednesday was a normal practice and then they had Thursday, Friday and Saturday off from practicing. Normally, I would have practiced Thursday morning, but I wanted to get the coaches on the road recruiting and give the players a little extra time to get caught up academically and health-wise, so hopefully it worked out. I think there is always a concern on if you lose the conditioning since it is such a huge factor for us, but we will practice intensely on Tuesday and Wednesday to keep our conditioning."
On playing in a minor league stadium:
"I have never done it before, and my first thought was if we are going to be on the same sideline as them. I have seen some of that in bowl games that are playing in baseball stadiums, but that is not the case here. Our guys went up there to look at the stadium and they say the grass is going to be in great shape. I think going in one direction is a bit different, but most coaches and teams are used to doing that in practice for scrimmaging. We will go up there Friday and walk through it, but it is the same for both teams, so it shouldn't be a factor."
On Treylen Brown:
"He is just a good football player. I think you could put him at tackle and he would know what is going on. And he is a coaches kid, so he has a little more knowledge. He is good at guard and good at center. He has really taken charge up there and has done a great job."
On Jamari Jemison:
"Jamari has made one of the best plays we have had with his interception and he is one of our fastest guys on the team. He is a competitive guy, loves to play and is fast. We challenge our corners by playing a lot of man coverage and put pressure on them because we know they can handle it."
Jamri Jemison, CB, So.
Opening Comments:
"I spent the off week making sure my body was prepared for these next few weeks and making sure I can play at 100 percent. This break was good for the whole team since we have been grinding hard."
On North Alabama:
"We have had time to work on them and I think if we can play to our potential, the game will be good for us."
On what he did on the off week:
"I went to spend time my family and make sure I got to see others in the family because during the season I don't see them as much."
On playing in a minor league stadium:
"It is kinda weird going one direction and I thought about what happens if you get a pick – do we keep going that same way or do we go the other way."
Treylen Brown, OL, R-So.
Opening Comments:
"My off week was kinda slow and I was ready to get back on the field, but we were off Thursday to Saturday and practiced on Sunday. I stayed here in Jacksonville because I am from Spartanburg, South Carolina, so I just stayed here and relaxed and got my hydration right."
On North Alabama:
"It isalways a big game with UNA and I have been here a while now, so I know the rivalry with UNA and they are a real scrappy team and they play hard."
On moving to center:
"I have been preparing to play center since spring, so it was not that big of a deal. I was worried about Cangi, but I had to go out there and do my job and I was prepared for it."
