Jax State set for Friday night bout against ranked Tide

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State continues road play tomorrow night at Alabama with an 8 p.m. tip-off from Coleman Coliseum as the Gamecocks and Crimson Tide clash in Tuscaloosa for the third-straight season.
Â
A year ago, the Gamecocks (1-1) pushed a then-sixth ranked Alabama squad to the brink in a 65-59 setback in mid-December. This time around, the Crimson Tide (3-0) enter ranked 16/18 between the AP and Coaches polls.
Â
Just one year removed, the matchup features vastly different lineups following departures from both UA and JSU's rosters from a season ago. Among Jax State's top 10 scorers after two games this season, only senior Demaree King played in last year's meeting.
Â
Senior transfer Skyelar Potter leads the Gamecocks through two games with 16.5 points per game. Potter is just one of several newcomers that will hit the court Friday night including Clarence "Monzy" Jackson, Travis Roberts and Cam McDowell, who made his first start of the season on Monday in Chicago and finished with a career-high 10 points against UIC.
Â
The Gamecocks dropped the road contest in the Windy City to the Flames, 67-60, and look to bounce back against the Tide on national television. Even with the close loss last season, the Gamecocks turned the momentum they gained in Tuscaloosa into a 10-game winning streak immediate following.
Â
Friday's contest has a late tip at 8 p.m. on ESPN's SEC Network. Video streaming links through Watch ESPN and the ESPN app are still available at JSUGamecockSports.com, as well as live stat and audio links.
Â
Following Alabama, Jax State will return to Pete Mathews Coliseum next Tuesday, Nov. 22, to host Elon, before jetting off to Albuquerque for three games in the Thanksgiving Lobo Classic.
