Jax State men return to The Pete to face Reinhardt Wednesday - Jacksonville State University Athletics

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State's men's basketball team returns to action at Pete Mathews Coliseum on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m., following a five-game road stretch since Nov. 25.

The Gamecocks (4-5) host Reinhardt University (6-6) of the NAIA's Appalachian Athletic Conference. It will be the seventh all-time meeting between the two programs going back to 2005. Head coach Ray Harper's Gamecocks dropped the Eagles 109-77 on Dec. 29, 2018, in the most recent meeting.

Jax State's impressive early road tests challenged the Gamecocks at Alabama, New Mexico and Utah, three teams that currently rank inside the NCAA NET top 25 and are a combined 25-3 on the season. In addition, the Gamecocks faced the first month of the season with a rotating roster lineup that hasn't fully been settled. Big men Amanze Ngumezi and Mason Nicholson have missed four games, while guards JJ Platt and Cam McDowell haven't been healthy for each game as well. DJ Gordon, a mid-year transfer last season is expected to make his Gamecock debut soon as he wraps up his NCAA-required one year of residency.

Skyelar Potter and Demaree King have carried the bulk of the offensive output so far averaging 14.6 and 13.4 points, respectively. Potter also helps clean up the glass with 4.4 rebounds per game behind only Juwan Perdue's 7.8. Perdue has pulled down 11-or-more boards in three games so far this season and registered his second career double-double against Northern Colorado in Albuquerque, N.M.

Wednesday's action is set to tip at 6:30, following JSU's women's game against Alabama State. ESPN+ streaming links as well as live stats are available at JSUGamecockSports.com.
