JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Sate men's and women's tennis teams return to action on the JSU Tennis Courts Friday, Feb. 25, against Alabama A&M and St. Thomas.
Both teams will take on Alabama A&M at 11 a.m., but the women's side will also face St. Thomas at 2 p.m. in a double-header.
The women's team enters the match 2-5 overall and is coming off of a loss to UAB, 5-2 last time out. The squad is 1-1 at home on the season with the loss to UAB and a 6-1 win over Wallace State.
Sophomore
Anna Syrova leads the team in singles win with a 5-1 overall record on the season. Syrova has participated in the second, third, fourth and fifth flights this season but holds a 2-0 record in both the second and third flights.
Alabama A&M comes to Jacksonville with a 3-4 overall record and has won three consecutive matches. Jasmine Boyd is 3-3 from the first flight this season for the Bulldogs.
In the second match of the day, the JSU women will host St. Thomas University. The Tommies are 0-6 on the season and dropped a weekend match to SIUE, 6-1, last time out.
On the men's side, the Gamecocks are 3-2 overall this season and have won two consecutive matches with wins over Jackson State, 5-2, and Wallace State, 7-0.
Vicente Arbelaez leads the Gamecocks with a 3-0 record in singles play on both the No. 2 and No. 4 courts.
Alabama A&M's men's team is 0-2 this season and will play their first match since Feb. 12 on Friday.
