JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State University men's tennis team fell to Tory University, 4-3, in a tightly-contested match Tuesday afternoon on the JSU Tennis Courts.

The Gamecocks took an early lead 1-0 after winning doubles and went ahead 3-0 in the opening matches of singles play. The Trojans halted JSU and completed a comeback, winning four straight matches, to hand the squad its first loss of the season at home.

JSU drops to 4-4 on the season following the defeat while the Trojans move to 10-3.

The Gamecocks opened the match with a thrilling come-from-behind win in doubles. Troy took No. 3 doubles 6-4, for an early advantage before Maj Tomac and Vanja Dobrnjac earned a 6-4 win in the second flight. Following a back-and-forth affair, Joaquin Vallejo and Aljaz Kaplja won their fourth match of the season, defeating the Trojans 7-6 in the first flight, clinching the doubles point.

After winning the doubles point, Thomas Norwood gave JSU a 2-0 lead with his 6-3, 6-4 win on the No. 2 singles court. Jordi Blanchar followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win in the sixth flight to put JSU up 3-0. The Trojans surged back to tie the match 3-3- with wins at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4 singles.  With the match even at three, Troy completed the comeback when Manuel Bernard topped Vicente Arbelaez, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.
