JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State's
Abbi Perkins delivered a two-run double in the sixth to break a scoreless contest with Colgate as the Gamecocks won their sixth in a row with a 3-0 win on Wednesday night at University Field.
Jax State improved to 15-8 overall and will have one final tune up before opening up ASUN action this weekend in Kennesaw, Ga. JSU will host Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday afternoon on the JSU campus. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. All JSU students and fans 18 years old and younger are admitted free. Colgate dropped to 8-10 on the season and will continue its trip across the state of Alabama with a series at Samford in Birmingham, Alabama.
After an hour delay due to persistent rain in the Jacksonville area, the two clubs could not take advantage of early scoring opportunities as combined both teams stranded 16 runners on the bases. Both pitchers were able to get out of tough positions to keep each offense off the scoreboard.
JSU freshman
Kat Carter turned in complete game performance with a season-high 11 strikeouts. The Spring Hill, Tennessee native scattered four Raider hits in the contest. She picked up her eighth win of the season. CU's Bailey Misken suffered the loss as all three runs scores by JSU were unearned runs.
The JSU sixth started with a walk by
Savannah Sudduth and
Brantly Bonds reached on an error by CU. After Misken recorded two strikeouts, Perkins blasted the double to centerfield. JSU picked up the third run on the second miscue by the Raiders in the frame as Perkins scored on a throwing error after a
Sidney Wagnon single.
Wagnon turned in a pair of hits in the contest to lead the Gamecocks' lineup.
