Men's Tennis Tops Bellarmine 4-1

Box Score JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State University men's tennis team closed out a weekend road trip with a win over Bellarmine, 4-1.
 
With the win JSU improves to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in ASUN conference play. The Gamecocks move to fifth place in the league standings while Bellarmine (5-10, 1-3) drops to sixth.
 
JSU opened the match with two doubles wins. Daisuke Inagawa and Thomas Norwood defeated the Knights 6-1 to open doubles play before Maj Tomac and Vanja Dobrnjac clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win in the second flight.
 
With a 1-0 lead after doubles, the Gamecocks earned wins in three singles matches to win 4-1 overall. Norwood put JSU ahead 2-0 with a 6-4, 7-6 win in the third flight. Tomac pushed the lead to 3-1 following a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 win in the No. 2 spot. Jordi Blanchar clinched the match win, 4-1, in the sixth flight, 6-0, 6-0.
 
"After eight hours in the bus two days straight, we are just happy to end the trip 2-1 in the ASUN," said Head Coach Mike Mucci. "Bellarmine is scrappy and solid at the top of their lineup, so they made our guys work for every point. I'm proud of the guys for how they battled through adversity and some fatigue to finish the job. We will now prepare for two huge home matches next weekend."
 
Up next, JSU will return to Jacksonville for three consecutive home matches. The Gamecocks will host West Alabama on Mar. 30, at 1 p.m. before continuing conference play against North Florida on Friday, April 1, at 1 p.m. and Stetson on Sunday April, 3 at 10 a.m.
