Jax State Drops Series To EKU With Saturday Setback

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State baseball team dropped a Saturday decision to Eastern Kentucky, 13-1, on Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium.

The Gamecocks (12-13, 6-2 ASUN) will look to bounce-back in the series finale on Sunday against the Colonels. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. Sunday's contest will have a Truist Park in Atlanta flavor. The reigning World Series Champion Atlanta Braves' mascot Blooper will be in attendance along with the organization's organist, Matthew Kaminski. Blooper will be available for pictures and other activities throughout the contest. The

game and Bloopers' appearance is sponsored by the City of Anniston and Main Street Anniston. Tickets are available online at JSUGamecockSports.com. JSU students and fans 18 years old and younger are admitted free. The game will also be streamed n ESPN+ and carried on the Gamecock Sports Network.

EKU (20-8, 7-1 ASUN), who claimed its second consecutive series against Jax State with Saturday's win, jumped on the scoreboard quickly with three runs in the first two innings and broke open the game with a three-run fourth inning. While the Colonel offense collected 17 hits on the night, EKU's Rese Brown handcuffed the Gamecocks over 8.0 innings and scattered five hits and allowed the lone JSU run in the second inning. Brown picked up his fourth win of the season, while JSU freshman Tanner Jones suffered the loss (1-3).

The Gamecocks' offense came via senior Alex Carignan's second home run of the season with a leadoff home run to start the second inning. JSU threatened for runs in the fourth and the sixth after getting the first two runners on base in each inning, but EKU's Rese was able to get out of the jams with double plays. Carignan finished with two of JSU's six hits on the night with a single in the ninth.

The top of JSU's lineup recorded hits with sophomore Mason Maners, senior Cole Frederick and junior T.J. Reeves all reaching base on singles. Reeves extended his on-base streak to 14 consecutive games with his single in the fourth and has reached base in 24 of the 25 games this season.

EKU's Kendal Ewell highlighted the Colonels' lineup with three hits and was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. He reached base five time with two walks and drove in four runs. Roderick Criss also added three hits and a pair of RBI, while EKU's Jalen Jones finished with a game-high four hits.
