CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Jacksonville State volleyball (15-1, 3-0) rolled to a 3-0 win (25-14, 25-12. 25-15) in Friday evening's ASUN Conference matchup at Queens (5-11, 0-3). That decisive victory in the first meeting between the two programs keeps JSU tied for first place in the league and serves as their tenth sweep in 16 matches.
"I thought we did a great job of serving tonight and had good communication on defense," Jacksonville State head coach
Todd Garvey said after the triumph. "Queens runs a lot of different plays and crossing patterns offensively, so communication was key, and we did a good job with that tonight."
Clinching the first set was no problem for the visiting Gamecocks. Jacksonville State's defense was put on full display as they held Queens to a sub-.000 hit percentage. Garvey's squad went on a 7-0 in the middle of the interval to take a commanding lead and never looked back en route to a 25-14 set win.
The second set saw more of the same. After a strong defensive outing in the opening set, JSU's offense shined with a collective hitting percentage of .667, cruising to a 25-12 victory.
The Gamecocks continued their dominance in the third set. Queens burned both of their timeouts unsuccessfully trying to stop a big scoring run down the stretch. JSU wound up taking the frame 25-15 to claim their third straight victory to start conference play.
