Jansson Earns Fourth CUSA Golfer of the Week Honor Of The Fall

DALLAS – After wrapping up his fifth event of the fall season this week, Jacksonville State's Erik Jansson has earned his fourth Conference USA Golfer of the Week honor.

Jansson, a senior from Vasteras, Sweden, won the award for the fourth-straight week in which he competed after his performance in the White Sands Bahamas NCAA Golf Invitational.

Led once again by Jansson, who finished tied for fourth, Jax State played its best golf of the three-day tournament in Sunday's final round. The Gamecocks shot a 17-under 271 over the final 18 holes to turn in a 54-hole score of 844 (-20). Their final-round 271 tied for the fifth-lowest round in school history, while the 17-under score on Sunday tied for the fourth-lowest round vs. par by a Jax State team.

Jansson kept his streak of rounds at par or better alive, carding an opening-round 69 on Friday before back-to-back rounds of 68 over the weekend capped his weekend on the par-72, 7,159-yard Ocean Course at the Ocean Club. The native of Vasteras, Sweden, tie for fourth at 11-under in the field of 56 players.

The three rounds under par closed a fall season that saw Jansson shoot every round at par or better. He signed for a round under par 14 times in his 15 fall rounds, shooting even in the other. His fall scoring average finishes at 68.87 over 15 rounds, and he drops his career scoring average to 71.79, ahead of Danny Willett's school record of 71.96 set from 2005-07. He also runs his career total for par or better rounds to 50, fourth-most by a player in Jax State history.

Jansson used a solid approach game to feast on the Ocean Course's par-three holes. He shot 3-under on those holes over three days, the best score among all players in the field. He was 5-under on the par-four holes and 3-under on the par fives. He made either par or birdie on 48 of his 54 holes in the event and also added an eagle on the 306-yard par-4 17th hole in Saturday's second round.

Jansson and the Gamecocks turn their focus towards preparing for the spring, which will open on Feb. 19-20 at the World Golf Village Collegiate in St. Augustine, Fla.
