Jax State men's golf tied for fourth in its final regular season tournament, taking part in the Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge at True Blue Golf Club in Pawley's Island, S.C.
After struggling in the first round with a nine-over day of 297 as a team on Monday, Jax State bounced back with the third-lowest 18-hole team score in the entire field with a nine-under total of 279 on Tuesday and closed with an even-par round of 288 in Wednesday's final round.
The Gamecocks were eight shots behind George Washington for third and 13 back of runner-up UAB. Connecticut won the tournament by two shots.
As a team, the Gamecocks led the field in Par 4 scoring with an average of 3.99 and were the only team to play those holes under par.
Stanley Campbell had the best showing on the individual leaderboard with a one-under 54-hole total of 215. The junior was one-over in the first round, but posted a two-under 70 in the second with 14 pars, and closed with an even 72 on Wednesday.
Senior
Ryley Heath took 23
rd with a one-over total of 217. Heath started with a 76 in the first round, but roared back with a 69 in the second which saw him post a bogey-free 32 on the back nine, and a 72 in the third.
Cole Lindeman also ran into trouble in the first round with a five-over day of 77, but ended up finishing 27
th after a two-under 70 on Tuesday where he holed-out for an eagle from 145 yards out on the Par 4 17
th, and had a one-under 71 in the final round.
Will Drake and
Ben Shedd tied for 39
th with a 54-hole total of five-over 221. Drake posted rounds of 75, 73, and 73. Shedd posted rounds of 73, 70, and 78. He was bogey-free through 12 holes and was five-under during the second round. Shedd was second in the field in Par 4 scoring at 3.88, playing those holes at three-under.
The Gamecocks will be back in action at the Conference USA Championship at Texarkana Country Club in Arkansas on April 27
th.
