LESZNO, Poland – Jacksonville State will leave an imprint on the international tennis circuit this week as freshman men's tennis standout
Agustin Cuellar represents his native country of Bolivia in the 2023 Davis Cup.
The Davis Cup is the World Cup of tennis and is the largest international team competition in world sport. The event gives participants the opportunity to represent their nation in what is traditionally viewed as an individual sport. Some of the top tennis legends of all-time have taken part in the Davis Cup including Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal.
Cuellar represented Bolivia in the Junior Davis Cup previously and will compete in the prestigious event again later this week. The first-year Gamecock from Santa Cruz De La Sierra, Bolivia, has had a strong start to his collegiate career. Cuellar is 1-1 in singles competition and a perfect 2-0 in doubles play thus far. He was the second-highest ranked player in Jax State's 2022 recruiting class and will add another accolade early in his career by participating in the Davis Cup.
Cuellar and Bolivia are in World Group II and will face off against Georgia on Thurs., Feb. 2, and Fri., Feb. 3. That match will take place at the Leszno Tennis Club in Leszno, Poland. Start-times are set for 10 a.m. CT and 9 a.m. CT respectively.
