ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Jacksonville State beach volleyball was swept, 4-0, in Wednesday morning's road exhibition at Eckerd College. The Gamecocks fell behind early and could not battle back against a talented Tritons squad.
 
Jax State (0-5-1) suffered four two-set setbacks at Eckerd (2-7). Jessica Dunn and Luci Wilkinson lost 21-14, 21-12, on court one before Isabelle Fuell and Brooklyn Schiffli fell in the second flight. The freshmen tandem of Parker Phenicie and Kathryn Smith battled well on court three but came up just a bit short in a 21-19, 21-18, heartbreaker. In addition, Kiara Amigon and Carley Lynch dropped their pairing on court four.
 
Freshman Morgan McClure played alongside Eckerd's Jocelyn Escoffery in an unofficial fifth showdown, but they too lost against Tritons Jessi Megrheblian and Sophia Romingh.
 
Following that tough exhibition defeat, Jacksonville State will travel to Palatka, Fla., on Thursday morning for a regular season dual at St Johns River State College. The first match against the Vikings will begin at 11 a.m. and the second showdown will follow around 1 p.m. The Gamecocks will round out this week's road trip with four matches in the Jacksonville University Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
