PALATKA, Fla. – Jacksonville State beach volleyball played to two draws on Thursday in a dual at St. Johns River State College. The Gamecocks showed improvement against a solid Florida junior college program but could not come out on top in a pair of close matchups.

Jax State (0-5-3) scored wins on courts one and four in the first match. Gracie Danzinger and Luci Wilkinson battled in the top flight, narrowly claiming a 12-21, 21-18, 16-14, comeback triumph in three sets. After a loss on court two and a three-set heartbreaker for Parker Phenicie and Kathryn Smith in the third showdown, Kiara Amigon and Carley Lynch ended up on the right side of an 11-21, 21-19, 15-10, decision in the final stanza.

Danzinger and Wilkinson stayed hot in the second match against SJRSC (3-3-2). They earned another slim victory in the no. 1 flight, winning 19-21, 21-15, 15-13. Amigon and Lynch reigned victorious on court four again, tallying a 21-16, 21-16, triumph to secure a second straight draw.

Wilkinson, a freshman from Fairhope, earned her team-leading fourth and fifth wins of 2023 on Thursday. Danzinger now has four victories on the Spring and Amigon, who picked up her first result of the year on Tuesday, has three. In addition, Thursday's triumphs for Lynch marked the first in the career of the Long Island transfer.

Jacksonville State will conclude this week's Spring Break trip to Florida with four matches in the Jacksonville University Tournament on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the Gamecocks will play Warner (Fla.) at 9 a.m. CST before meeting Mercer at 1 p.m. Saturday's showdowns will include an 11 a.m. CST first serve against Jacksonville before another test against Warner at 1 p.m. Jax State will return to the Yellowhammer State next weekend to take part in the UAB Beach Classic in Birmingham.
