Jacksonville State Falls Twice to Open JU Tournament - Jacksonville State University Athletics

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Gamecock beach volleyball dropped both of Friday's matchups in the Jacksonville University Tournament. Jacksonville State was swept by Mercer in the first matchup before losing, 5-0, to the host Dolphins later in the day.

Jax State (0-7-3) could not find their footing against Mercer (1-17). The Bears picked up dominant two-set triumphs on courts one, three, and four, and added a forfeit victory in the fifth flight. Although Isabelle Fuell and Brooklyn Schiffli battled in the no. 2 spot, they also fell in three sets by a final of 22-20, 11-21, 8-15.

Their second match of the day against Jacksonville (7-10) yielded similar results. Gracie Danzinger and Luci Wilkinson held tight on court one, falling 21-13, 21-16, but the Dolphins benefited from that result, three other two-set decisions, and a forfeit in the no. 5 flight, in a 5-0 win.

Jacksonville State will conclude this week's road trip across the Sunshine State with two more matches in the Jacksonville University Tournament on Saturday. The Gamecocks will take on Jacksonville at 9 a.m. CST before meeting Mercer again at 11 a.m. They will return to Alabama shortly thereafter, where head coach Michael Haars, assistant Shelbie Dailey, and the squad will begin preparations for next weekend's UAB Beach Classic in Birmingham.
