JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State men's tennis hits the road this weekend looking to get back in the win column against a pair of ASUN Conference foes. The Gamecocks will take on Queens at 1 p.m. CST Friday before duking it out with Liberty at noon Sunday.
Jax State (9-7, 1-1) had a heartbreaking setback in Monday's conference match versus North Alabama. Despite mounting a massive comeback to force a winner-take-all final singles match, the Red-and-White could not catch a break in the last showdown as Xavier Sarda Marti fell in a three-set marathon. After suffering their first loss in league play, the Gamecocks will travel up the east coast this week looking for redemption.
Friday's test in the Queen City will mark Jacksonville State's first ever meeting with the Royals (5-11, 1-2). Queens faced a gauntlet in non-conference play, taking on perennial powers like Charlotte, James Madison, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest, and have already lost to a pair of strong ASUN opponents in Liberty and Kennesaw State. They were able to earn their first league win as a member of the ASUN Conference last Friday, however, as they topped Austin Peay, 6-1, at home.
Liberty (9-8, 4-0), on the other hand, is a conference heavyweight. The two-time defending ASUN champions have tallied three ranked wins on the year over no. 46 Penn State (6-1), no. 67 Michigan State (4-1), and no. 70 Charlotte (4-3) and have dominated in conference action thus far. The Flames cruised to 6-1 wins over Eastern Kentucky and Queens and have swept Kennesaw State and Lipscomb. They will host North Alabama on Friday evening ahead of Sunday's Senior Day matchup in Lynchburg, Va.
The Gamecocks went 0-2 versus Liberty in 2022. After falling 5-2 on the road in the regular season, Jax State lost, 4-0, in the ASUN Quarterfinals to LU in Fort Myers, Fla.

Jacksonville State tennis returns home next weekend to host North Florida on March 31 and Kennesaw State on Apr. 2.
