SNOW HILL, N.C. – Less than 48 hours after wrapping up one tournament, the Jacksonville State men's golf team returns to the links to play another.
The Gamecocks wrapped up play in the Golfweek/Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate on Wednesday in Pawleys Island, S.C., and played their practice round for the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate on Thursday. They will begin play in the event on Friday morning at 8 a.m. ET.
The Cutter Creek will look a little different than what Jax State is used to playing. Instead of a five-player lineup, the 10 teams in the field will play six players and will count the four-best scores in each round. It will also be streamed online by the College Golf Network at
collegegolfnw.com.
The Gamecocks will begin play on the par-72, 7,280-yard Cutter Creek Golf Club with a shotgun start on Friday morning and will be paired with players from Rhode Island and Old Dominion. Also in the field is Delaware, Gardner-Webb, Radford, Richmond and co-hosts East Carolina and Elon.
Leading the way for the Jax State lineup will be junior
Erik Jansson, who is in the middle of playing the best golf of his collegiate career. The Vasteras, Sweden, native used three under par rounds at the AGT Intercollegiate to finish in a tie for fifth and run his streak of consecutive rounds under par to seven. He has been under par in nine of his 12 spring rounds and holds a 70.25 scoring average since the beginning of the spring semester.
Janssen will be the final Gamecock to go off the 10
th tee on Friday, teeing off at 8:50 am ET. Sophomore
Santiago Bailleres will be back in the No. 2 spot for head coach Michael Brice, while senior
Ross Napier will be in the No. 3 position.
Playing No. 4 is sophomore
Ryley Heath, a Decatur, Ala., native that is making his return to the lineup after some impressive performances in the fall semester that included a third-place finish at the Golfweek Fall Challenge. Sophomore
Jackson Bowman will be the fifth player, while redshirt-freshman Richardo Matho will round out the Jax State lineup at No. 6.
The tournament will span three days, with the teams playing 18 holes on each day to conclude on Sunday.
