JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State softball opens a busy home week on Tuesday hosting Georgia Tech in the final home midweek game of the season.
The Gamecocks (24-11, 10-2 ASUN) slipped from first place in the ASUN standings over the weekend, falling twice on the road at Stetson. JSU had won 13-straight games before back-to-back losses to close the weekend.
Looking to begin a new streak, and turn the page heading into another important ASUN series at home this weekend, JSU will face Georgia Tech (20-19) out of the Atlantic Coast Conference at 5 p.m. from University Field. The Tuesday afternoon tilt will be Faculty and Student Appreciation night for JSU. The Gamecocks will be representing members of the faculty on the field, while Jax State will serve free pizza to students at The Cock Pit outfield deck.
As a reminder, admission is free all season to JSU home softball events compliments of Martin's Family Clothing. For fans unable to attend, the contest will stream on ESPN+ with live stats also available at JSUGamecockSports.com.
The Jax State/Georgia Tech series has shown to be one of the most competitive regularly played non-conference series since the first meetings in 2002. The Yellow Jackets lead the series, 8-6, with the largest margin of victory in any game being seven runs. Of the 14 prior meetings, 10 have been decided by two runs or fewer, including a pair of extra-inning contests. The Gamecocks have enjoyed success as of late, winning the previous three meetings, including a 2-1, 9-inning game at Oxford's Choccolocco Park just over a month after losing their home facility to the devastating EF-3 tornado that struck Jacksonville in 2018.
After blasting a home run each last weekend, junior Lindsey Richardson and senior Holly Stewart continued to pace the Gamecocks offensively 31 and 23 RBI, respectively. Behind Richardson, senior Lauren Hunt boasts the next best batting averaging with a .326 clip, while freshman Linley Tubbs follows Richardson with an on-base percentage of .421.
Tuesday's game is sponsored by NobleBank and Trust.
