PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – The Jacksonville State women's golf team will look to build upon the momentum gained from its opening tournament this week, when they take on the Golfweek Fall Challenge.
The Gamecocks are coming off an impressive runner-up finish at the USA Intercollegiate last week and will try to continue their hot start to the season on the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club this week. The 54-hole event will be played over three days on the par-71, 6,026-yard layout.
Junior
Paula Perez Cubinas, the Gamecocks' lone upperclassman on the roster, will play in the top spot in head coach
Robbie Fields' lineup in the Golfweek Fall Challenge. The native of Girona, Spain, moved into that role after her performance in the USA Intercollegiate.
Perez Cubinas carded two of the lowest rounds in her career last week, shooting a first-round 71 before a final-round 69 moved her into a tie for fifth place in the tournament. She finished the three-day event with an even-par 216.
Freshman
Ashley Stevenson will play as Jax State's No. 2 player in Sunday's first round after an impressive collegiate debut a week ag0. The Fontainebleau, France, native tied for 11
th in her first tournament, using rounds of 73-73-72 to shoot a 2-over 218.
Fellow freshman
Jinger Heath will play in the No. 3 spot after also having an impressive collegiate debut in the USA Intercollegiate. The native of Decatur, Ala., tied for 13
th after rounds of 74-69-76, accounting for a 3-over 219.
Redshirt freshman
Rachel Camp, who finished 20
th in her collegiate debut last week, will play in the No. 4 spot this week. The Peachtree City, Ga., native finished her first collegiate tournament with her first collegiate round under par with a final-round 71 (-1) in the USA Intercollegiate.
Sophomore
Ebby Somers rounds out the Jax State lineup this week in the No. 5 spot. The Valdosta, Ga., native opened the season with an even-par round of 72 and finished 28
th to open her second season as a Gamecock.
