JONESBORO, Ark.—After 18 holes, the Jax State men's golf team was just two shots off the lead of the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate.
The Gamecocks ended up third in the field at RidgePoint, posting a 10-under team score in the first round of 278 and followed with two more under par rounds of 283 and 286 to finish the 54-hole event with a team score of 17 under par.
Jax State led the field in Par 3 scoring at 2.93 and were second in Par 5 scoring at 4.58.
Host Arkansas State won the event at 40-under.
Santiago Bailleres was the top individual for Jax State, placing sixth at 10-under (206). Bailleres opened the tournament with five birdies in the first round to card a 68 and posted four more in the second round for a one-under 71. The senior was four under on the Back 9 on Tuesday and finished his final round with a five-under 67.
In 54 holes, Bailleres had 34 pars and 15 birdies.
Ryley Heath was 14
th in the field at four-under. In the first round he carded a four-under 68, highlighted by a five-under 31 on the Front 9. The senior posted a three-under 69 with just a single bogey in the second round and closed the tournament with a 74.
Heath was second in the field in Par 5 scoring at nine-under with an average of 4.25.
Ben Shedd tied for 27th with a total of -1. The freshman was even in the first round with an eagle on his final hole of the round, and was one-under in the second and closed with another even-par round on Tuesday.
Gabriel Restrepo tied for 31st at even. The fifth-year senior started and finished his first round with eagles on Par 5s to post 70. He closed the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 73.
Devin Speight rounded out the lineup in 46
th at four-over. Speight shot a one-over 73 in the first round and was even in the second before closing with a 75.
