JONESBORO, Ark. – The top-ranked Jacksonville State bowling team will return to the lanes this weekend against another stacked field at Arkansas State's Mid-Winter Invitational.
The Gamecocks (67-10) will put their five-tournament win streak on the line at the Jonesboro Lanes starting Friday, when the 18-team event gets underway with Baker play. It will be Jax State's first action in almost three weeks and since being voted the unanimous No. 1 in the NTCA's February Coaches Poll.
Friday's Baker matches will pit the Gamecocks against some of the nation's top competition once again. They open the day against Alabama A&M and then take on No. 10 Maryville, No. 6 Nebraska, N0. 16 Newman and No. 24 Central Missouri.
Saturday's traditional matches will begin with a matchup that will be determined by Friday's standings and will follow with matches against Grambling, No. 3 and host Arkansas State, No. 5 Vanderbilt and No. 23 McKendree.
Bracket play will be on Sunday, where matchups will be made based on seeding from the first two days of competition. All of Jax State's matches can be watched live on Jax State's
Jax State's inaugural season has been an impressive one. The Gamecocks started with a runner-up finish at Destination Orlando and have won all five tournaments since.
They hold the top spot in all of the national rankings and nearly every statistical category, while their .870 winning percentage is also tops in the nation. Jax State is coming off a win in a stacked Prairie View A&M Invitational, its fifth win in a row, and its sixth appearance in the title match in six tournaments.
The Gamecocks' team scoring average of 213.3 is almost six pins more than the second-best in the nation, leading them to compile a 45-10 record against teams ranked in the Top 25. In their 10 losses, they hold a 204.1 scoring average that is better than all but five other schools' overall mark.
