LYNCHBURG, Va. – Jax State embarks on its first Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
Â
The 2024 CUSA Indoor Track & Field Championships begin today with multiple qualifying trials and some final competitions are conclude Saturday, February 24. The two-day meet is hosted by Liberty. Live results and ESPN+ viewing links for both days are available at JaxStateSports.com, along with a championship schedule of events.
Â
"We have grown a tremendous amount this indoor season, said Jax State head coach Jeremy Provence. "Each week we have placed individuals on the top ten list of the Jax State Indoor Track and Field record book. We have seen personal best performances. Most importantly, we have individuals who have marks good enough to be competing on Saturday at the championship meet."
Â
Several of those individuals that enter the weekend with momentum from a strong regular season include Savannah Yates (pole vault) and Elo Blessing Okpah (60-meter dash) who established new school records earlier this season. Chidinma Margaret Mary Agu (400m), Bethelhem Manzano Jimeno (800m) and Jadyn Bonds (high jump) will also be key pieces for the Gamecocks as well as Carolina Minozzi who begins the day with the start of the pentathlon competition. Â
Â
"We are in position to score points in several events. It's going to be exciting! I think it will to come down to how well we handle our emotions and how well we can focus on doing the things that have made us successful up to this point. We have a lot of inexperience when it comes to championship competition, but what I love about this group is that they are tough and they compete hard."
Â
The action begins at 10 a.m. EST with combined events starting with the heptathlon and pentathlon at 10:15 a.m. Starting at 1 p.m., the first set of field events will begin, leading off with women's pole vault. Running prelims will start with the mile at 3 p.m. The women's 5000m and DMR final will kick off at 6:30 p.m. and 7:20 p.m.
Â
On Saturday, the second round of field events will start at noon with the women's shot put, triple jump and the high jump before the men at 3 p.m. At 2 p.m., the remainder of the running finals begin. The awards presentation is scheduled for 5:40 p.m. following the conclusion of relays.
