JONESBORO, Ark. – Gamecock women's tennis returned to their winning ways on Saturday morning, handing Arkansas State a 6-1 setback at the Jonesboro Country Club. Jacksonville State won a competitive doubles point and never looked back, scoring a victory in their first ever meeting with A-State.
Jax State (4-4) claimed the match's opening point on Saturday. Polina Ramenskaja and Serafima Shastova picked up a 6-2 win in the first flight to set up a winner-take-all showdown in No. 3 doubles. In the end, the tandem of Irene Artigas and Dariana Prato survived in two-on-two play for the Red-and-White, posting a 7-5 result to send the Gamecocks into singles action with a one-point advantage.
Singles play went in a similar fashion for the visitors from the Yellowhammer State. Arkansas State (4-4) dropped the first three singles matches to allow Jacksonville State to clinch the match.
