Milosavljevic Clinches Ranked Win

HOOVER, Ala. – Jacksonville State men's tennis rolled to a ranked win over No. 70 Dartmouth on Saturday morning at the Hoover Met. The Gamecocks took the doubles point and withstood a strong comeback attempt by the Big Green to pick up arguably their biggest win of the Spring 2024 campaign.

"This was a great team win for our boys," head coach Trey Morris said. "This has to be one of our first- if not our first- win over a ranked opponent in program history. I'm beyond proud of these guys for the work they put in."

Two-on-two action in Hoover was tight throughout. Though Dartmouth (7-8) won in the top flight, Jax State (10-6) rallied to clinch the opening point. Ivan Marrero Curbelo and Xavier Sarda Marti scored a 7-5 difference at No. 3 doubles, then Vanja Dorbnjac and Lucius Soller posted a triumph in tiebreakers (7-6 [7-4]) in the second showdown to close out doubles play.

The Red-and-White kept the pedal to the metal in singles matches. Sarda Marti tallied a 6-1, 6-2, victory at No. 4 singles, then Marrero Curbelo won, 6-4, 6-3, in the first flight. DC would continue to battle, adding three results of their own, but a Marko Milosavljevic (3-6, 6-2, 6-3) three-setter on court five clinched a match win over ranked Dartmouth.

"It ended up being 4-3," Morris said. "We had a couple matches that didn't quite go our way, but we felt very good. We won a really tough doubles point, went up 3-0 with a couple straight-set wins, then Marko came up big and clinched the match."

Jacksonville State takes part in a short Spring Break road trip next week. They play at UNC Asheville at 11 a.m. CT Monday, then face off against former ASUN Conference rival North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla., at 1 p.m. CT Wednesday.
