
Jax State Tennis Set To End Season Against UAB

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State's men's tennis team will conclude their regular season with a match Friday at 2 P.M. against in-state rival UAB in Birmingham.
Jax State (15-8) went 1-1 last weekend in matches against Radford (1-14) and Gardner-Webb (18-3). The Gamecocks downed Radford 4-1 with the lone loss of the match coming in doubles action. Gardner-Webb defeated Jax State in a tight 4-3 match.
Liam Day is pacing the Gamecocks with a 13-3 record in singles play. Xavier Sarda Marti follows closely with a 12-4 singles record, while Vanja Dobrnjac has a 12-9 record, respectively. Two Gamecocks have 10 wins in singles with Matei Palcau posting a 10-8 record and Marko Milosavljevic being 10-11.
Dobrnjac has the best record for Jax State in doubles action with a 12-8 record on the year. Lucius Soller's 10-8 record in doubles in good enough for second on the team thus far. Win percentage wise, Sarda Marti leads the Gamecocks in doubles with a 9-3 record in the 2024 campaign.
The Red-and-White will need contributions from everyone to defeat rival UAB (10-10) in the final contest of the year. The Blazers lost two consecutive matches before beating Samford 4-2 on April 3rd. The clash against Samford was the last time UAB competed ahead of Friday's match. UAB posts a 4-3 home record this season.
"What we are hoping to gain from tomorrow is obviously a win over a rivalry school," Jax State coach Trey Morris said. "I think this match means a lot to not only our players, not only our community, not only our alumni, but also this university. We're really excited for the opportunity to compete against the Blazers. I think also, there's a lot on the table left for us. Seeding with the conference tournament is on the line, and additionally national rankings and some things that we're trying to achieve on the national level are on this match."
