Ryley Heath led the Jacksonville State men's golf team in a rain-shortened Golfweek Any Given Tuesday Invitational this week.
Heath, a junior from Decatur, Ala., tied for 15
th in the 100-player field after shooting a 1-under 143 at True Blue. He played the 6,940-yard, par-72 tract at even par in Monday's first round and fired a 1-under 71 in the second round on Tuesday. He got off to a solid start on Wednesday before heavy rain forced officials to cancel the final round.
The Gamecocks tied for 14
th on the team leaderboard, finishing the tournament with a 9-over 585. They shot 296 to open on Monday before bouncing back with a second-round 289 on Tuesday.
Heath had only one blemish on his card in Monday's opening round, signing for a double bogey on the par-4 18
th hole. He made a pair of birdies and 15 pars before the 18
th. On Tuesday, he got off to a solid start with a birdie on his first hole, the par-5 10
th. Seven pars and were followed by a bogey on 18 that allowed him to turn at even par. Three birdies and two bogeys on the front nine capped his 1-under round.
Senior
Erik Jansson was 1-over for his 36-hole tournament, tying for 28
th place. The native of Vasteras, Sweden, used a 1-over 73 in Monday's opening round of play and then shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday. He made a team-best nine birdies over the two rounds.
Junior
Santiago Bailleres finished his 36 holes at 5-over, tying for 64
th. The Chascomus, Argentina, native rallied with an even-par 72 in his second round after shooting 77 on Monday.
Redshirt junior
Gabriel Restrepo tied for 78
th after the native of Caracas, Venezuela, used rounds to 78-74 to shoot 152. He finished two shots ahead of redshirt sophomore
Ricardo Matho in a tie for 86
th. He used a 74 and an 80 to account for his 154.
The Gamecocks have one tournament remaining on their regular season schedule, Appalachian State's Irish Creek Intercollegiate at the Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, N.C., on Monday and Tuesday. They will then turn their focus to the Conference USA Championship on April 22-25 at the Texarkana (Ark.) Country Club.
