Jax State Notes

Jax State Picks off Miners in El Paso
Behind a 20-point performance from Michael Houge, Jax State knocked off UTEP, who entered the afternoon tied for first in CUSA, on Jan. 23. The Gamecocks trailed UTEP by as many as eight points in the second half before storming back for a come-from-behind victory. Jaron Pierre and Quel'Ron House each added 14 points in the victory.

House Call
For the second time since Conference USA play Started, Quel'Ron House set a new career high in points. House clocked out against WKU on Jan. 9 with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists before nearly reaching the 20-point mark on Jan. 18 against Sam Houston when he tallied 19 points in just the fourth start of his career.

Gamecocks Sweep CUSA Homestand
On Thursday, Jan. 16, Jax State defended home court and defeated Louisiana Tech 63-61 at the Pete Mathews Coliseum. The Gamecocks followed up the win with a 70-62 victory over Sam Houston on Saturday, Jan. 18. The Gamecocks came from behind to knock off the Bearkats in Jacksonville.

Gamecocks Top WKU for Road Win
Jax State waltzed into E.A. Diddle Arena and out-rebounded Western Kentucky 50-30 for its first Conference USA victory of the season. Led by career outings from Quel'Ron House and Mason Nicholson, the Gamecocks overcame a poor shooting outing, firing just 3-for-20 from beyond the arc.

Cleaning The Glass
Jax State ranks seventh in the NCAA in defensive rebounds per game with 29.11. Michael Houge (51st) and Mason Nicholson (97th) both rank in the top 100 in total rebounds per game with 8.4 and 7.7 respectively.

Stay off the Line
Jax State ranks third in the NCAA this season in fewest fouls per game, averaging just 12.6 per contest. The Gamecocks trail just Creighton (10.5) and Central Connecticut State (11.8) and are tied for third with fellow Conference USA member Liberty. There have been six occasions this season where Jax State has fouled 10 or fewer times in a game, including on Jan. 16 when the Gamecocks fouled just six times against LA Tech, holding the Bulldogs to just two free throw attempts.

JP in the Ranks
Through 19 games this season, Jax State guard Jaron Pierre Jr. ranks in the top 20 nationally in both Total Points (9th) and PPG (5th). Pierre's 21.2 points per game lead Conference USA and put him among the premier scorers in college basketball.

Up Next
Jax State returns to The Pete for a four game homestand beginning on Jan. 30 with FIU. The homestand also includes games against Liberty, Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky.
